Earthquake Relief Helicopter Crashes in Mexico, Kills One

A helicopter that was working in relief efforts for victims of the deadly 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit Mexico on September 19th crashed on Friday morning in the state of Oaxaca, officials announced.

The helicopter was a vehicle belonging to the Attorney General's Office, and was carrying five people at the time of the crash.

One person, the pilot, died, and the other four have been injured and hospitalized.

“We express our condolences and solidarity with the family of our decieced partner. We look forward to the recovery of the injured,” the Attorney General's Office tweeted.

The causes of the fatal crash are still unclear, and are under investigation. According to the Attorney General's Office, the Bell 212 helicopter was traveling toward the town of San Pedro Leapi in the San Carlo Yautepec municipality.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto expressed condolences to the family of the pilot, and wished quick recovery to the wounded.

The helicopter was working in relief efforts for the massive magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck near Mexico City and the state of Puebla on September 19th, leaving at least 2,000 injured and nearly 300 dead.
