Brazil's Michel Temer Hits a New Low with a 2% Approval Rating

Just when it seems impossible for Brazilian President Michel Temer's approval rating to get any lower, DataPoder360 released a new poll revealing that only 2 percent of respondents consider the current administration in a positive light.

The survey, which interviewed 2,096 Brazilians, was conducted between June 17-19 and released today.

Temer, who was imposed by Brazil's Senate after a parliamentary coup against democratically-elected President Dilma Rousseff, is embroiled in multiple corruption scandals and has pushed a host of unpopular neoliberal measures.

Brasil247, reporting on the results of the survey, highlighted that 75 percent of respondents - a 10 percent increase compared to a survey conducted in May - outright rejected Temer; while 79 percent of respondents preferred Temer's resignation or an annulment of his presidency; and 76 percent agreed that his acquittal by the Superior Electoral Court was a flawed decision.

If Temer is removed, or resigns, something that he has adamantly refused to do, 87 percent of Brazilians prefer democratic elections. This detail is of utmost importance because if Temer's presidency is annulled, Brazil's Supreme Court would confer the right of congressmen and senators to approve indirect elections within 30 days. The term of the presidential substitute would end on Jan. 1, 2019.

Only 4 percent of respondents agreed with indirect elections.
