Cuban shooters have not qualified for the Central American and the Caribbean Games to be held in Barranquilla yet, but they are well-aware of the responsibility they have in Cuba’s final medal standings as Barranquilla-2018 is regarded as the toughest games in history.

And we are not asking the impossible, as target shooting is the third sport discipline with more medals won historically, behind track and field and weightlifting in Central American Games.

In the case of weightlifting, we should recall that medals were given in every category.

As a matter fact, target shooting has contributed with more than 150 gold medals to Cuban delegations in Central American Games. In Barranquilla 2018, 34 titles will be up for grabs. Cuba will compete for 28 of them.

The recently appointed National Commissioner Julio Fidel Hernandez confirmed that Cuba is in line to win a dozens of gold medals in Colombia. Such number would be only surpassed by track and field.

We should first get the ticket. With that purpose in mind, our shooters will participate in two competitions to be held in El Salvador on October 10th, and the Dominican Republic in November (skeet).

All this optimism contrasts with the lack of resources to practice; for instance, lack of bullets, cartridges…

Anyway, Cuban must win the target shooting discipline in Barranquilla 2018.
