Cuban Presence at Acapulco Book Fair Recognized

The presence of a delegation of Cuban writers and artists led by the island's ambassador to Mexico, Dagoberto Rodriguez, was highly assessed during the opening ceremony of the 4th International Book Fair, FIL-A 2016.

The gesture to distinguish Cuba as a guest of honor was grateful on behalf of this delegation from the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and the island's cultural authorities by the top Cuban diplomat to this country.

Cuba and Mexico continue united by an unbreakable bond that transcends borders of time and the ups and downs in politics. The brotherhood between both peoples is an example of what a true cultural fusion in our continent, Rodriguez said during the opening ceremony.

After giving the official welcome to Cuba, local mayor, Evodio Velazquez, reminded Cuba's National Hero, Jose Marti, who visited this port twice during the second half of the 19th century.

The praise to the Cuban presence in this resort was also referred in separate speeches by the Director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History in Mexico, Diego Prieto, state secretary of culture, writer Mauricio Leyva, representing Guerrero governor, Hector Astudillo.

Cuba is also present in this fair with a wide range of books of all literary genres and a special donation by the Prensa Latina publishing house. This event will last seven days.

Among the texts that will be donated for free to the public are 'El merito de estar vivo,' 'Tras los pasos de Hemingway en La Habana,' 'De Gutenberg a Bill Gates,' by prominent journalist Luis Baez and Ciro Bianchi, and renowned writer Lisandro Otero.

The group of notable intellectuals making up the Cuban delegation to the Acapulco book fair is also composed by Alex Pausides. He is a poet who born in Sierra Maestra mountain range, in Cuba, he is the president of UNEAC and the global movement of poetry.

Writer Fidel Orta, Cultural Attache at the island's embassy in the Mexican territory; poet Waldo Leyva, director of the Havana venue of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA TCP), among others.
