At the ceremony, the group led by Jesús "Aguaje" Ramos was the winner in the category Tropical Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group, for the CD Lost and Found, album of unreleased recordings of musicians like Compay Segundo, Omara Portuondo, Eliades Ochoa, Ibrahim Ferrer, Cachaíto Lopez and Miguel "Anga" Diaz, among others.

According to information published in the digital site of Billboard magazine, the popular urban music duo Gente de Zona won awards in the categories of Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Song of the year with the hit La Gozadera, single they sing along with Puerto Rican Marc Anthony.

Other winners of the night were the Spanish Enrique Iglesias and singer Nicky Jam with seven awards for the song El Perdón, followed by Mexican Juan Gabriel who reached five prizes, including Best Tour, Top Latin Album and the Best Pop Album of the year, plus a special tribute for his successful career.

For the first time Billboard Latin Music Awards were presented in a special issue titled Billboard Duets, and all the musical presentations were performed in duets or collaborations between artists, including major performers such as Juan Gabriel and Alejandro Fernandez, Marco Antonio Solis and Marc Anthony and Victor Manuelle with Yandel.
