The event, to be hosted by US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle, will take place on April 29 and will be broadcasted the following day on ABC under the name "Jazz at the White House," as well as in the websites of the United Nations, UNESCO, the Department of State and the Casa Blanca in "streaming".

Among the chosen ones to celebrate the date in this important government headquarters are Trombone Shorty, Danilo Perez, Diana Krall, Al Jarreau, Hugh Masekela, Buddy Guy, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, among many others that sum up more than twenty artists who will perform under the musical direction of musician John Beasley.

““We are thrilled that President Obama and Michelle Obama are hosting the International Jazz Day All-Star Global Concert at the White House”, said UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock.

On her part, Irina Bokova, director General of UNESCO, thanked the White House for giving this stage for the celebration. Jazz was born in the US and traveled the world as a music of tolerance, freedom and human dignity. This is why UNESCO created International Jazz Day”, declared Bokova, who was pleased for Washington has been designated as the host city in 2016.

Many acclaimed musicians and educators will participate in a daylong series of free jazz performances, master classes, improvisational workshops, roundtable discussions, education programs, jam sessions, and community outreach initiatives at schools, embassies, arts centers, hospitals, museums, social service agencies, jazz clubs, senior centers, metro stations, recreation centers and parks across Washington, D.C. on April 30th. These programs in Washington, D.C. will be among the thousands of International Jazz Day live performances, educational activities, and community service programs taking place in all 50 U.S. states and in more than 190 countries on all seven continents.

After the performance, pianist Chucho Valdes will start a tour around Spain in May with Irakere, a group that is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
