Jimmy Page to Record First Solo Album in Almost 30 Years: Releasing in 2016

After a two year endeavor reissuing all nine studio albums and officially closing the doors to classic rock giant Led Zeppelin's vaults, the silver-haired, Les Paul wielding guitar hero, Jimmy Page, recently announced he'd release his first solo album in almost 30 years in 2016.

The Led Zeppelin alum's last solo venture, Outrider, saw its release in 1988 and now, 2016 looks pretty promising for the former Yardbirds guitarist as he plans to head to the recording studio for a new LP. That 28-year gap doesn't mean he's stopped playing, however. Page has kept at it, carrying on practice non-stop to ensure his guitar skills are at their height, something we're not too concerned about.

''Next year I'm just going to working on the guitar, it's time for me to go out there and do a solo album - my last solo album was 1988. I haven't really milked the situation; it's time to do another one," he told BANG Showbiz (via Virgin Media) this week at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards in London.

'I'm known for playing many styles of guitar, and I need to re-visit all the different styles I can play," the 71 year old legend continued. As of now, Page has a feeling that his record will be fully instrumental. However, he is keeping an open mind to collaborating with guest singers if he feels the tracks need something a little extra upon completion.

''I'm not thinking about singers, I'm thinking of an instrumental thing - I want to work with my strengths rather than my weaknesses. I want to work with myself, I want to get myself up and running and once I'm ready I'll think about whether I need someone to sing on the music," he said.

Once the solo venture is complete, Page has all intentions of hitting the road in 2016 with Glastonbury as a potential stop. "The next thing for me to do is in some shape or form or vehicle is to be seen to be playing live - that would be next year. I can't be doing that this year," Page explained to Gigwise. Regardless of Robert Plant's stern decision to stop touring with Zeppelin, Page is fully open to playing the group's staple hits while on the road.

Page most recently teamed up with members of Alice in Chains as well as Guns N' Roses for a live rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll."
