The singer directed the final performance of Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday evening, although he was absent from the first performances because he had to undergo laparoscopic surgery to remove his gallbladder. Now he is traveling to Spain for the presentation of Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Palace of Arts in Valencia from Dec. 5-20.

“I’m ready to continue” with the agenda for the coming year, which includes a concert in January in Miami “that I’m very excited about” – he said – because he has not performed there for quite a while, along with Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” in New York in April.

Domingo, 74, told EFE in an interview that he will also return to direct at the Metropolitan Opera and will continue directing at the Los Angeles Opera.

The singer was admitted to a New York hospital last month after experiencing significant abdominal pain during a rehearsal of “Tosca,” and he remained under close observation at the health center for a week.

The tenor, who will be accompanied at the Miami concert by his son, also told EFE that he wishes everyone “calm, healthy and prosperous holidays” and for 2016 “to be much better ... since it has to be better than 2015.”
