Documentary on Cuba Premiers in Japan

The event, which was a tribute to late Ernesto Che Guevara and Cuban Independence War General Antonio Maceo, known as the Bronze Titan, was organized by the Embassy of Cuba in coordination with Cervantes Institute and the Japanese filmmaker.

The film, produced and directed by Nishikawa, was shot in Cuba in 2010 and includes interviews with representatives of the arts, sports, culture and education in that nation, including Doctor Guevara.

Figures such as songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, the sublime musician Jesus "Chucho" Valdes, the retired athlete Ana Fidelia Quirot, writer Senel Paz and painters Zaida del Rio and Nelson Domínguez appeared in the film along with students and teachers of the Cuban school ¨Solidarity with Panama.

This educational center is highly renowned in Cuba for engaging in the care of children with various disabilities, and in her speech Guevara addressed the work of her country regarding the special education.

She highlighted the importance given in Cuba to this specialty, as well as the level of professionalism, devotion, love and humanism it requires.

The event, held at the Cervantes Institute headquarter, was also attended by Cuban ambassador to Japan, Marcos Rodriguez, who emphasized the historical birth coincidence (June 14th) of Ernesto Che Guevara and Antonio Maceo, two indispensable men in the history of Cuba.

Dr. Guevara will also participate in a tour of several Japanese cities, in which she will offer conferences after the presentation of the documentary about Cuba.
