This year, out of the five nominees, only one is a previous nominee and the other four are first-timers.

The winner of the award will join previous winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez ("Frozen"), Adele ("Skyfall"), Brent McKenzie ("The Muppets") and Randy Newman ("Toy Story 3").

"Everything is Awesome" - "The Lego Movie"

Shawn Patterson received his first Academy Award nomination for his song to "The Lego Movie." The film was a smash hit at the box office back in February and it was the front-runner to win the animated category. However, the film was snubbed in that category on nominations morning. Yet, the song has gotten a lot of momentum as it was nominated for the Critics' Choice and other critics' circles. It did not get a Golden Globe nomination, which can be important if the writer is to win the Academy Award. Since the film was not as strong among the Academy, it is unlikely this song will be either.

"Glory" - "Selma"

John Stephens and Lonnie Lynn received their first Academy Award nomination for their work on the song performed by John Legend. "Selma" is the only Best Picture nominee in this category and its song has won the Golden Globe and Critics' Choice. It is also customary that the Academy try to reward every single Best Picture nominee. Since "Selma" is only nominated for two Oscars and this song has already obtained a lot of momentum, expect "Glory" to walk away with the Oscar.

"Grateful" - "Beyond the Light"

For her work on the Indie hit, Diane Warren received her seventh Academy Award nomination. The songwriter has previously nominated for her songs in "Pearl Harbor," "Music of the Heart" and "Armageddon," among others. The nomination for this picture was one of the big surprises as the film was completely under the radar during awards season. While critics and Indie organizations were raving about Gugu Mbatha-Raw's performance in "Beyond the Lights," Warren's song wasn't being recognized. Since the film is unknown among organizations, don't expect the movie to win the Oscar.

"I'm Not Gonna Miss You" - "Glen Campbell...I'll Be Me"

Glen Campbell and Julian Raymond received their first nomination at the Academy Awards. The nomination for the song follows the trend of the Academy nominating a documentary outside of the documentary category. Other docs that have been nominated in the song category include "Chasing Ice" and "An Inconvenient Truth." The song for "Glen Campbell" has been recognized at the Grammys and by other awards groups. However, the film is unknown to general audiences and it is not be marketed by a big studio. As a result, it will likely go home empty-handed.

"Lost Stars" - "Begin Again"

Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois obtained their first nomination for the musical. If there is a song that could give "Selma" a run for its money it is "Lost Stars." The song has been a front-runner since the film came out in the summer. While it missed the Golden Globe nomination, it was nominated for the Critics' Choice and for other critics' circles. It also does not hurt that Adam Levine will perform at the Academy Awards and that the Weinstein Company is behind the release. Additionally, John Carney directed the film and he is the director behind the Oscar-winning musical "Once," which actually won this category.

Predictions

"Glory" from "Selma" will win the category. However, if the Academy isn't feeling the film like they demonstrated on Nominations Morning, expect "Lost Stars" from "Begin Again" to walk away with the big prize.
