Traditional Carnival of Santiago de Cuba Back on Form
One of the main sites of the carnival is Avenida Michelsen or La Alameda, located alongside the bay and provided with stands for the parade of floats, groups and dances, which are the most appealing items of the carnival and the most significant expressions of the traditional popular culture.
The carnival will be held from July 21st to 27th to continue the celebrations of the Caribbean International Festival, to be hosted in this city from July 3rd to 9th dedicated to the culture of Bonaire Island.
Enrique Bonne, granted the National Award of Music and very linked to the carnival with his Tambores, supports this genuinely popular event, which should keep its original features and basic spirit to avoid becoming a fair given the changes brought in by modernity.
Historian Julio Corbea considered that for its own nature, this festival is ground-breaking and it should be systematically researched into by scholars, to keep on finding its keys, as essential elements of the Cuban identity.
