Cuba implemented a three-year training for experts from countries of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) on issues related to risk mitigation and coping with natural disasters. Cuba, fulfilling the commitment made at the last summit with Caricom, which was held in Havana in December 2014, is offering the Caribbean countries the Training Workshop "Focus and Tools for Disaster Risk Management: The Cuban Experience", taking place this week in Havana.

According to the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez, it is a good example to reiterate that despite the economic difficulties and the changes to improve its social and economic model, Cuba is committed to cooperate and share its achievements with the Caribbean nations.

In this regard, the Minister pointed out that the cooperation to face the consequences of climate change deserves special attention.

The minister stated there is no choice but to strengthen coordination to confront this reality and mitigate the tremendous impact these phenomena cause on water resources, coastal areas and marine species, in the biodiversity, agriculture and human settlements.

This century's challenges make us to keep joining forces to deal with natural disasters, the effects of climate change and coordinate approaches about the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
