Ban Ki-moon Lauds Restoration Of Diplomatic Ties Between US, Cuba

United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, has welcomed Wednesday’s announcement that Cuba and the United States will reopen their embassies in Havana and Washington, D.C.

Speaking through a statement made available to journalists by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban said the restoration of diplomatic ties was an important step on the path toward the normalization of relations.

In keeping with the principles of its founding Charter, the UN chief announced the world body’s supports for efforts to promote more harmonious and good neighbourly relations among States.

Lastly, Mr. Ban said he hoped that this historic step would benefit the peoples of both countries.”
