CELAC Coordinators Condemn US Blockade to Cuba

The National Coordinators of the Community of Latin-American and Caribbean States (Celac) condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, confirmed members of this group Monday.

During a meeting celebrated Sunday in this country previous to the 3rd Summit of Heads of State and Government (January 28 and 29), the coordinators of 33 nations in this mechanism of integration endorsed the resolution presented by the Cuban delegation on this matter.

The text ratifies the rejection to the blockade, violating the International law, and greets the reporting realized on December 17 by the Presidents of the United States and Cuba, Barack Obama and Raúl Castro, respectively, on the intention of normalizing the diplomatic relations between both countries.

The text also urges Obama to adopt all the measurements that are inside his executive faculties to modify substantially the application of this restrictive politics against Cuba.

The coordinators of the Celac requested to the Congress of the United States to initiate, in the short term, a discussion on the elimination of the imposed measure doing harm against the government and people of Cuba, for more than half a century.

They remembered, also, 23 resolutions approved by the General Assembly of United Nations on the topic and flare-up to the international community to keeping the attitude of rejection identical to the blockade while it persists.

Parallel to this, they strongly condemned the rise of the extraterritorial dimension of the blockade, and it condemned the inclusion of this country in the so called list of countries that promote the international terrorism.

The meeting of national coordinators took place the weekend in the Center of Events in San Antonio of Bethlehem, province of Heredia, approximately 23 kilometers west of this capital and in this environment, several ones were approved of the resolutions that will be presented for his ratification by the Heads of State and Government of the Celac.
