At least 819,749 Cubans living in the country traveled abroad for personal reasons in the last five years, since the update of the migration legislation in January 2013, official data reveal today.

Although most of them left Cuba for the first time, the figures show that the nationals made a total of 2,656,111 trips abroad, as some of them repeated, according to the statistics to which Prensa Latina had access.

In the same period, Cubans living abroad made 2,072,093 trips to their nation of origin.

For the authorities of the island there is a sustained increase in the travel of both those who live inside and those who are settled outside.

Cuba receives, in significant and increasing proportions, its nationals residing in other territories, particularly in the United States, the report emphasizes that although there was a setback in relations between Washington and Havana in 2017, there was a growth of 39 percent over the previous year.

In the 2013-2018 period, Cubans residing on U.S. soil made 1,578,430 trips to their country, and in particular in 2017 they made 432,786 visits, higher than the end of 2016.

Unfortunately, as pointed out by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, during the closing of the recent meeting of the CRE in Washington, while Cuba is opening, the United States closes.
