Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that his country will always be at the forefront of global efforts to eliminate the U.S. blockade against Cuba and will increase them as a shield against the incumbent administration of Donald Trump.

'We are going to equally support nations that are under pressure from U.S. sanctions, and here I want to refer to Cuba of course, a case on which Russia has always taken a contrary stance to the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade', he said.

'We reiterate the United States that the policy of sanctions never bears the expected results and it only strengthens the convictions of those who are subject to sanctions, making them follow their own path and achieve their objectives,' Riabkov told the Prensa Latina news agency.

'These will be our actions for the future. Under no circumstances will we accept a discussion on terms or criteria for the elimination of U.S. sanctions against our country,' said Riabkov.

'Time will pass and the U.S. Government will be convinced that this policy has no future whatsoever,' said Riabkov, referring to the measures taken by Trump's administration against Russia in recent months.

Last October, 191 countries voted in favor of a resolution presented by Cuba at the United Nations General Assembly to ask for the immediate end of the U.S. blockade, while denouncing the consequences of its implementation for the Cuban population.

Only the United States and Israel voted against the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States set up against Cuba more than 50 years ago.
