Nicaragua has donated 600 tons of wood to Cuba to help restore the damage caused by destructive hurricane Irma early last September.

After receiving the donation, the Cuban minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca thanked the friendly gesture by the government and people of Nicaragua.

Irma was the most powerful hurricane to hit the Caribbean in the past 10 years and one of the 10 most intense recorded in the world.

The destructive cyclone that reached category 5 in the Saffir-Simpson scale, the highest, hit the Cuban northern coast along which it moved westward damaging hard several provinces, though most of the island's territory suffered Irma's bashing.

Since then, Cubans have been working hard to recover from the damages and reconstruct partially or fully destroyed infrastructure.
