President Evo Morales has denounced a hardening of the U.S. blockade on Cuba, despite the 191-country refusal to that policy at the UN headquarters last week.

'USA hardens the criminal blockade on Cuba despite the rejection of 191 countries. As he could not submit politically the Cuban people, he tries to suffocate it economically ...', the president posted on Twitter last night.

The head of State expressed that position after the Treasury Department of the northern country announced a series of measures to punish Cuban tourism, and affect more than 100 companies and hotels on the island.

'We have strengthened our policies on Cuba to distance the economic activity from Cuban military forces and encourage the government to move towards greater political and economic freedom for the Cuban people,' U.S. Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, said, cited in a report by the Telesur television network.

About 191 countries voted on November 1 in favor of a resolution presented by Cuba to demand the lifting of that U.S. policy in the session of the UN General Assembly. Only two nations were opposed the decision of the overwhelming majority, the United States and Israel.
