The Cuban French-origin city of Cienfuegos is now attracting more foreign tourists, because of its historical center, which has been recognized as a United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization''s (UNESCO) Cultural Patrimony since 2005, and its strong French influence.

Located at 218 kilomters east from the Cuban capital, Havana, Cienfuegos is called La Perla del Sur (The Southern Pearl), and was founded by French colonists led by Don Louis de Clouet on April 22, 1819, under the name of Villa Fernandina de Jaguar.

In 1829, in honor to Jose Cienfuegos Jovellanos, Captain General of the Island of Cuba, the name was replaced, by the name Cienfuegos.

Today, its architecture preserves abunbdant neo-classic decoration, with streets, alleys, esplanades, parks, which strongly attract travellers coming from Europe, interested in travels on history and culture.

Among its main attractives, there is the Jose Marti Park of Cienfuegos, custodied by two pretty lions and preserving a marble rosette with the colours blue, green and brown.

Another architectural beauty here is the Tomás Terry Theatre, built in 1889 with Italian influences and decorated with marble.

Also the Government Palace built in the 20th century; the Arc de Triumph, dedicated to the Cuban independence; and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, decorated in red and yellow.

As if it were one bystander, since 2009, a bronze statue of the maximum figure of Cienfuegos music, Benny More, is standing, in natural size.

Such elements make up a very nice panorama for those wishing to know the ins and outs of Cuban cities, with stand out above all of the elements of architecture, music and traditions.
