The Popular Mojito Drink, Present in Varadero Gourmet 2017
Mojito, a popular Cuban cocktail, stands out today among the attractions of the 9th International Varadero Gourmet Festival 2017, which runs until June 30 in this city.
The famous drink appeared in the sixteenth century, when Corsair Silvio Suarez prepared a concoction with liquor, sugar, lemon, mint and other herbs, according to the stories.
Initially, it was called draquecito, but in the 1860s it was renamed as mojito, after the substitution of liquor by rum of better quality.
The drink gained popularity in Havana's Bodeguita del Medio, where personalities like the North American writer Ernest Hemingway often drank it.
Its main ingredients are rum, peppermint, lime, sugar, and lemon is usually added to the drink to make it more refreshing.
There are also varieties that include fruits such as strawberry, melon, and watermelon.
