The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) has opposed on Friday the Donald Trump's new policy against Cuba.

This important regional group of hoteliers and tour operators estimated that Trump's policy will have negative effects for US companies and for socioeconomic development of Cuba and Caribbean nations, according to local media.

The statement declared the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States to Cuba and urged Washington to eliminate the restrictions that affect in that sense the Caribbean island.

It also encouraged Cuba's active participation for regional and economic development, the Jamaica Observer newspaper reported.

The changes announced by Trump´s policies against Cuba might pause or reverse its recently encouraging progress, CHTA reported.

The CHTA called for any new US regulations to continue furthering the small and medium-sized enterprises' openings, from both Cuba and US.

The Caribbean Association remarked that Trump's new policy against Cuba infringes the tourism in the Caribbean region.

It added that the aforementioned policy does not even help guaranteeing the security of the so-called Third US Border since it cuts employment and business activity in the region.

According to the Association, Trump does not take very much into consideration in its anti-Cuban public policies that a flourishing Caribbean will put less pressure on the population movements in the region.
