The demand was expressed at a resolution adopted at the end of the meeting, in which participants ratified the decision to continue supporting the Cuban people in their struggle against this economic, commercial and financial siege, considered the main obstacle for the country's development.

The meeting, organized by Members of European Parliamentarians of the Greek Communist Party and the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), also called for the return to Cuba of the territory occupied by the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo, which remains occupied by Washington against the will of the government and the people of the Caribbean nation.

During the opening session, WFTU General Secretary, George Mavrikos, stated that the blockade is a barbarism, and defended the need to strengthen the struggle for its immediate lifting.

The second secretary of the Cuban Workers Federation, Carmen Rosa Lopez, explained in detail the emergence and application of that American policy, and emphasized the increasing opposition that awakens in the world.

The union leader 'reiterated the Cuban working class' decision to continue fighting against the blockade until its total uprising and the conviction that only unity and solidarity can lead to victory,' the diplomatic statement said.

Cuban ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, Norma Goicochea, thanked the holding of the event and reaffirmed the irrevocable and unequivocal decision by the Cuban people to fight for their independence, sovereignty and exercise their rights.
