The weaponry of misinformation and cultural domination implemented by Cuba's enemies are steadily becoming more advanced and insidious, said Cuban President Raul Castro.

Cuba's "enemies" use increasingly sophisticated "information and cultural domination." These were the words of Cuban President Raul Castro as he addressed the Cuban Radio and Television Institute, ICRT, on Thursday.

Castro's letter was published in its entirety by Granma, Cuba's state press agency.

His opening statement read that 55 years ago, Cuba's Revolutionary government created the ICRT “to confront the slander campaign underway to (topple) the examples of sovereignty, justice, and dignity that Cuba represented for the peoples of the world.”

He emphasized that the weaponry of misinformation and cultural domination implemented by Cuba's enemies are steadily becoming more advanced and insidious. To counter such media weapons and attacks, Castro said that the ICRT must rely on its revolutionary commitment and creativity to sustain, strengthen, and carry on the work of Cuba's independence.

Thursday marked the 55th anniversary of the ICRT. Its predecessor was the guerrilla radio station, Radio Rebelde.

Founded in February 1958 by Che Guevara, Radio Rebelde's first broadcast was from the Sierra Maestra and was used to inform Cuba's populace about the struggle against the corrupt, U.S.-backed forces of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.

Castro concluded his letter with an emphatic call to continue the defense of the Cuban Revolution. He stressed that the ICRT's anniversary be recognized as an “impetus to continue putting effort and talent at the disposal of our people."
