US Cuba Policy Clumsy, Unfocused, Says Ecuadorian Scholar

Ecuadorian intellectual Juan Paz y Miño said today that U.S. policy towards Cuba is increasingly clumsy, backward, and unfocused, as evidenced in the program to promote subversion by infiltrating young Latin Americans from outside Cuba into the country.
“The U.S. government and its military-industrial apparatus fail to understand that the world has changed and its actions against Cuba are clumsy, backward, and unfocused. So they push a program like that to try to promote subversion using foreign youth,” Paz y Miño told Prensa Latina.

According to Paz y Miño, the chances of success for such a project are very slim.

“Anyone who has been to Cuba knows that while people may have different criteria on some issues, there is a revolutionary sense of identity that is very hard to break,” he noted.

“Then, they fail to understand the sense of the Revolution, so their actions are removed from the historical focus, and it’s a pity, because even within the United States there are more and more critical voices in respect to that hostile policy that has continued for 50 years,” he said.

Recently it has been reported that through the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) young Latin Americans are being brought to Cuban universities in order to involve the country’s youth in destabilizing activities.

According to the historian, this is not the first time that Washington has used youth for its interventionist plans, since a project with similar features was carried out in 1960 through the so-called Peace Corps.

Both programs run on the same premise of using youth and their idealism to advance the interests of the U.S. government.
