More than 40 Turkish businessmen from industry, agriculture, electronics, tourism and other sectors are exploring opportunities of increasing trade and investment in Cuba during a bilateral business forum being held here.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba (CCC), Omar Fernández, indicated that the current portfolio of opportunities, updated in November, incorporated for the first time the banking and financial sector to access sources of financing, management techniques and analysis of Information, among others.

He referred to the existing potential in that industry, telecommunications for the development of software and science-technology parks, and in agriculture, a booster factor of the economy as it demands the development of other branches, he stated.

Fernandez also stated that the current Turkish delegation successfully complements the Cuban mission carried out in September 2016 in that country, during which the interest of creating strategic alliances was ratified.

According to Fernandez, although there are no projects with Turkish capital in Cuba, since 1997 the two countries have, as a favorable element, an agreement to promote and protect reciprocal investments.

Turkey's ambassador to Cuba, Berris Ekinci, stated that the joint efforts to boost economic and trade ties between the two nations are increasing.

He also commented that the establishment of direct flights in 2016 between Istanbul and Havana has benefited the promotion of tourist travel from his country to Cuba.
