Vietnam's National Assembly (VNA) Vice President, Tong Thi Phong, highlighted the work done by Cuban authorities on environmental protection.

Tong Thi Phong expressed this consideration after meeting with Tania Leon, presient t of the People's Power Provincial Assembly in Matanzas, at the headquarters of that governing body, located in the central district of this city, about 100 kilometers east of Havana.

The Vietnamese official was interested in the Cuban province's ties with foreign companies, the protection of the environment and the work of the cooperatives.

She expressed joy for visiting Matanzas, which she predicted it would be a financial center in the future.

Leon, who is also a member of the Cuban Council of State, explained to the visitor and her accompanying delegation the economic strengths of the region, based on tourism, oil extraction and agricultural production. She also referred to the constructive program to revive Matanzas on the occasion of the city's 325th anniversary in 2018.

At the end of the meeting, Vu Hai Ha, vice president of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, told reporters that Vietnam has spent more than 30 years in the process of renewal, and 'we have some experiences that can be shared with Cuban comrades.'

Tong and her accompanying delegation arrived in Cuba on February 15 in response to an invitation from the National People's Power Assembly (Parliament). They will return home on February 19.

During her stay here, the visitor met with Cuban Parliament Speaker Esteban Lazo and Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura.
