Cuban Vice President Calls for More Energy Saving
The vice president of the Cuban councils of State and Ministers, Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes, urged the people and state institutions to increase energy saving measures to contribute to the development of national socio-economic programs.
Speaking at the Commission of Energy and the Environment of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament) on Wednesday, Valdes said that grass-roots organizations must play a more active role in the implementation of actions to reduce energy consumption in the residential sector.
The General Director of the National Electric Union, Raul Garcia, noted that energy consumption increased with the arrival of summer and added that measures for the proper use of refrigeration, air-conditioning and cooking systems must be observed.
The minister of the Basic Industry, Yadira Garcia, pointed out that the State is investing large sums of money in the improvement of the national electric network to minimize losses in the transmission and distribution of energy.
The 12 permanent commissions of the Cuban Parliament are meeting at Havana’s Convention Center on Wednesday and Thursday prior to the fifth ordinary period of sessions of the seventh legislature of the island’s legislative body.
