Bruzón and Company Leading in San Juan
Three of the six leaders of the strong Open Chess Tournament in the Spanish town of San Juan are Cubans. They are the Grand Masters Lázaro Bruzón, from las Tunas, and the capital's Omar Almeida and Yuri Gonzalez, the other three of their counterparts at the top are: Pavel Tregubov, from Russia, Romanian Costica Nanu and the untitled Spaniard Sebastián Almagro, all with perfect results of three points in as many rounds.
Other Cubans in the struggle are the IM Pedraza Aramis (who should receive the GM title soon) and GM Reinaldo Vera, with 2.5 points, from a total of 130 competitors, 22 of them with the highest title of International Grandmaster. Source: Granma
