Cuba Tightens Interchange with FIPV
Cuba has strengthened its kinks with the International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV), said Paulo Hernandez, Cuban vice-President of the Board of Directors of the FIVP.
Hernandez, in statements to Prensa Latina, praised the partnership s between Cuba and the FIVP and also complimented the cooperation agreements regarding economic, technicological and methodological matters and sporting equipment.
Hernandez, who is also president of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean division of Basque Pelota, talked about the development of this sport in Cuba and gave details about the realization of the 17th world Basque Pelota Championship scheduled for next October 1-10 in different cities in France.
Hernandez said that the competition in France will take into account the 14 categories of the discipline and will include participants from India and Belgium, who are about to be incorporated into the main body of the FIPV.
He announced the participation of 22 countries and more than 500 pelota players, who will compete in the 14 categories.
He said that during the championship the FIPV General Assembly will be held, with the objective of electing the president and executive positions of the organization. It will also create the regulatory statutes to enable basque pelota to be accepted as an Olympic sport.
Finally, he noted that this competition is a qualifier for the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
