Cuban Documentary Festival Confirms Validity
The 11th International Documentary Film Festival Santiago Alvarez in Memoriam that opened today, and will last till March 13, confirms the validity of a style whose leading authority in Cuba was Santiago Alvarez.
Some 22 pieces by Cuban, German, Brazilian, Spanish, French, Peruvian and Venezuelan film-makers and from the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de las Banos will be on exhibit during the event.
Also on the list are documentaries from Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, United States, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Dominican Republic and Uruguay.
The film workshop for children and young people, called "Spring of Documentaries" taking place in the festival for the first time, is another activity that contributes to that seventh art's expression.
Spanish Roman Gubern and Brazilian Paulo Antonio Paranagua will be in charge of the Festival's theoretical lectures, and the jury includes Cuban, Mexican, Spanish, Venezuelan, Brazilian, Uruguayan and Argentinean renowned documentary makers.
The indigenous documentaries Tierra Sagrada (Holly Land), "Educacion en Resistencia" (Education in Resistance) and "Mujeres Unidas" (United Women) by Mexican and American producers will be among the main attractions.
