Chucho Brought Home the Grammy

Pianist Chucho Valdés returned to Cuba, from U.S. after participating at the awards ceremony of the 52nd edition of the Grammy Awards 2010, in Los Angeles.
Chucho, who accumulates seven awards of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (English acronym NARAS), arrived at the “José Martí” International Airport’s Terminal 2, in Havana, where he was welcomed by Natacha García Valdés, communication director of the Cuban Music Institute (ICM).
When referring to his recent award, which became his fourth statuette of the US Academy and joins three Latin Grammys, maestro Valdés told the Cuban News Agency (AIN) that “It is like a recognition to his work and stimulates him to continue doing more”.
The last two awards went to his CD “Juntos para siempre” (Together Forever), recorded along with his father and teacher Bebo Valdés, where Chucho admits they made an important work on Cuban pianistics that was recognized.
“We are super proud, our family, the people of Cuba and everybody are very happy with this award”, remarked the pianist, as he was holding up the statuette won in the category for Best Latin Jazz Album, in the face of the spontaneous applause of the public.
Chucho also reiterated he’s soon scheduled to record a composition of his, entitled “Haití volverá” (Haiti will Return), which will be made a video and all the profits will be donated to the people of Haiti, country devastated by a quake on January 12.
"We’re going to help our Haitian brothers in everything they need, we’ll do it with my music, with my work, and on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Music Institute”, said the artist excited.
